More about James

James HoldernessJames Holderness trained and worked as a journalist in London after obtaining an Honours Degree in English and History of Art from Otago University, New Zealand. He studied a post-graduate course in Landscape Design at the Inchbald School of Design, London, where he graduated with Distinction.

He worked for a number of years with a well-established firm in London during which he designed and led prestige residential projects in London and around the UK.

Starting his own practice in 2003, James Holderness Landscape Design specialises in residential projects in Central London, with clients in the Caribbean and Europe.

His approach to landscape design is based on the belief that the form of the design solution should be led by its function. While focusing fastidiously on the overall aesthetic of the design it is his sensitivity to the practical requirements, together with the local ‘genius’ of the place that has won him satisfied clients.

James remembers planting his first tree aged eight.
